This piece was conceived and produced by Oliver Jones. Handmade school composition notebooks were hand bound and filled with notes transcribed from actual letters between MaryKate Maher and various junior high female friends. The result is a bizarre journal filled with adolescent intensities in an awkwardly uncomfortable language known only to adolescent girls.

For this project, we created and posted a fake job listing on Craigslist. The idea came from our own frustrations looking for jobs in the arts during the down market. We found the compensations (if indeed there were any) grossly disproportionate to the qualifications, sometimes absurdly so. This begged the question: How absurd could it get before it was understood as a joke?

The Mountain

"The Mountain" is an ongoing series of performances in which we recreate ‘Ganzfeld’ experiments, popular in university psychology departments between the 1930’s and 1970’s.

Using mild sensory deprivation and double-blind conditions these experiments were used to quantify the presence (or lack thereof) of telepathic abilities. Our goal isn’t to prove or disprove these extraordinary claims. Rather telepathy represents, in this context, a kind of utopian communication, the ideal ground for collaboration.
